How I Rediscovered My Love For Comic Books

My earliest memories of anything comic book related are probably the first issues of Mickey Mouse that my parents bought me as a kid. I don't even know if you can really consider them comic books but those were the first things I read when I was 6. Besides that I never really been into getting any comic books.

I was more about the cartoons on TV at that time. I remember how I watched Captain Future and Thundercats religiously. Then there were the Turtles and things like Captain Tsubasa, Pinky & The Brain and of course Simpsons, Looney Tunes and later on South Park.

It wasn't until the age of 12 that I picked up my first comic book from my own money. I remember it was issue 12 of Spawn. I was fascinated by the way it was drawn and just the overall feel of the story. This Spawn issue had a huge impact on me not cause of the actual book but because there was an ad for a new series on the back of the issue and it was for Tony Daniel's The Tenth.

The Tenth would become the first comic book series that I read from beginning to end. I just loved everything about it, the story, The Tenth and of course it also helped that the female characters in the story seemed to get hotter and hotter as the series progressed (I mean I was 12-13 at that time, you know...).

But then the series ended way too soon and they no longer developed new stories which then made me somewhat lose interest in comic books for a long time.

This has changed over the last few weeks though and I've been getting into it heavily again. This has been mainly influenced by watching Morgan Spurlock's Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope, the documentary about Midtown Comics and then Comic Book Men. After that I've been browsing the internetz and seen all of these amazing variant covers and checked some stuff of the DC Relaunch and it made me realise how much I missed out on awesome stories and art.

I now want to build my collection and going along with it I want to run this website to document it.

One thing I am really interested to get into is everthing relating to The Silver Surfer which is my favorite character, so I want to get all comic books he's featured in and his own series, that'll be my long term goal; to have everything Silver Surfer related.

Other series I want to read include the new and old Batgirl series (the Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain ones,) Savage She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Legends of the Dark Knight, the new and old Death of the Family arch and whatever else I might see here and there.

I'm also very interested in independent comics, so if anyone reads this who knows of something good that's going on under the radar, let me know.

I'll probably post a bunch of stuff on this site, including comic, TV and movie reviews, comic book pick up's of the week, stories about my hunt for old books and whatever comes to my mind.. Maybe someone out there will enjoy reading my ramblings or whatever..
