Typing this as I watch episode 4 of Season 2. Now I was a little late to the party when it comes to Comic Book Men cause I didn't start watching until season 2. I started to be interested in watching after I saw Morgan Spurlock's Comic-Con doc.
For those who don't know, Comic Book Men is a show about Kevin Smith's comic book shop Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in Red Bank, NJ and it shows Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen's daily work in the store.
So, before even getting into season 1, I watched the first 2 episodes of season 2 and I really liked those. Then I went on to catch up and watched season 1. One thing I noticed was how much of a better format the 30 minute show is compared to the hour one. 1 hour was defintely too much.
I feel like season 2 concentrates more on what actually goes on in the store, where in season 1 it seemed like it was more about the things the store guys did, besides selling comics. The thing I like most about the show is when people come into the store to sell stuff, that's when it gets the most interesting to me. For someone like me, who's just getting back into comic books, it's helpful to see some of the old issues and learn a bit about them, that's what I really like about the show, you can get some good pointers.
I'd definitely say that I love season 2 so far, season 1 was just alright though. One thing the show lacks a little is female involvement. Every now and then there's a girl in the store, trying to sell something or looking for specific books. That's cool, I somewhat wish there was more of that though. I know the show is called Comic Book Men but it would be super cool if they'd had a female clerk, that'd make things so much more interesting and also bring a different perspective to the show. Maybe that's something to consider if there'll be a season 3.
Concluding I want to say that I really enjoy watching the show, it could be better in some aspects, but it's entertaining and fun and here and there you can actually learn something.
