The Cover Got Me: The Amazing Spider-Man # 617

This week in The Cover Got Me we have the 617th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man. It is a triple variant cover. I originally only wanted the first one and saw it on eBay but then someone bought it before me so I looked a little more and I found this set of all 3 covers so I thought, hey, why not!

What we see here is the Rhino breaking through. Once again, it's the simplicity that caught my eye here. I really like simple covers and especially the first one stands out to me, I like how  it's all white and looks cracked. The other 2, I don't care about much but I guess it's nice to have these 3 together in one collection.

Once again, a white variant cover featured in The Cover Got Me. In case you can't tell by now, I really love these kind of covers. So when I saw this, I had to get it.

This cover was illustrated by Marko Djurdjević, which is pretty cool cause he's actually from Germany, as I am. He did a few other Spiderman covers and some for other series, too so I'm thinking about eventually picking up some more of his work as it really looks fantastic to me. Also the homie Sermon told me that this little One More Day 4 part series is dope, so I'll definitely get me the other 3 issues.

Here I go again with another volume of "The Cover Got Me." This time we're looking at 2 issues of Wolverine # 300. One is the simple blank variant which Marvel did for a whole bunch of their different series. This will be nice to use if I ever get the chance to get it signed. Wouldn't it be cool to have this with Hugh Jackman's signature? I definitely think so.

The other one is the Jim Cheung variant and I really love how he illustrated Wolverine. So yeah I defnitely mainly bought these for the cover but the story in it is very nice as well. It's the beginning of a new storyline so I'm actually interested to catch up on that if I'm able to get the other issues.

This concludes another volume of The Cover Got Me.

With me being a very visual person, I tend to want to get things that look nice. The first thing of a comic book you see is obviously the cover, so if I see a nice one that I want to have; I mostly don't even really care about the content of the book, I just want it cause it looks nice.

Now I know that this puts me directly in the position that the comic book publishers want me to be in with all the variant covers and visually appealing things they release. But I just can't help it. If I see a comic book with a great cover, I'll probably buy it if I have the money.

The cool thing is that sometimes if you buy a book like that, it actually turns out to be a great story and then you might have discovered a new series you want to keep reading.

Now with these 2 books that I picked up this week, that's not the case. I don't really care about the content of these books, I just love the color and the illustrations. These 2 covers were New York Comic Con exclusives and the one with the girl at Rikers Island (Grimm Fairy Tales # 78) is limited to 500 copies and the other one (Grimm Fairy Tales: Godstorm # 1) to 750.

In the end these are just nice to look at and a nice visual addition to my collection, hell, I might even frame them and put them on my wall.

I see this happening a lot in the future, I just can't turn down a good looking cover.
